Well, after a grand old adventure in JFK I finally made it home. It was all kinds of confusing as the flight was a "direct" from Albany - meaning that the flight number continued with the same crew, but it was on a different PLANE. So while we were all sitting there thinking that we were good to go when out PLANE popped up as "at gate" at like 1:30. Well, the time for boarding approached and they said "if you're on the flight to Nashville, don't get up, but hang out in the gate area for further updated information on when you'll be leaving". Now, this happened shortly after I got the CNN breaking news tweet about the asshole and the plane going into Detroit, so my first thought was "SHIT! They're grounding everything." But no. Eventually we were told we were waiting on the crew. At this I burst out in hysterical laughter as "crew" was apparently the issue on all of Andrea's flight drama on Wednesday. Plane there, crew not made sense...kind of. This was before we figured out it was a "direct" flight. Then when our departure time was moved to 4:45pm (should have been 3:30), we hear "the flight from Albany [the first leg, not that anyone other than crew was staying on) is landing now, so when the crew gets over to your plane we'll be able to start boarding." Huh? Then we figured out that the 6687 was a flight continuation but not on the same plane. Well, we get to 4:30. The flight to Portland, ME has boarded and left without a hitch. The flight to Bangor, ME has boarded and left without a hitch. At this point we were all ready to go to Maine just to get to leave! Finally a little before 5 they start boarding us. And then all of us are on board and buckled and ready to go, but the door stays open and stays open and stays open. (Oh yeah...I was told "no problem with your bag, it'll fit" WRONG. So I had to make like a salmon and get my bag to the flight attendant to tag and put with the other bags that were gate-loaded.) Finally the cockpit hands the attendant some paperwork and we can go. Luckily the air traffic controllers were feeling generous and let us leave first since we were so late.
The flight itself wasn't bad. Other than Joshua. The kid behind me. Who kept his feet on my seat for the majority of the flight. Well, except the few moments when either his mom saw him or his sister saw me glare back that direction and said something to her mom. Joshua is a very lucky little boy that he's unharmed right now. Seriously.
We get to Nashville, and they say "Oh we have a Christmas present! We get a jetway!" Wonderful usually. Except on this kind of flight it makes getting the bags take longer. Because they have to put them on a cart and bring them up an elevator. As we're getting off the jetway the gate agent said "Your bags are coming up the elevator now and you can get them in the hallway." Ten minutes later, he's boarding the plane to go back to JFK, and our bags are nowhere to be found. FINALLY a cart is seen in the hall and we were on that thing like hyenas on a carcass. I grabbed my bag and hightailed it to the exit where Daddy and Andrea were waiting. Yay!
Got home and we had Christmas dinner, then opened presents. Well, most of mine is my nook, which will be coming in January. But in my stocking I got candy, a dorky magnetic notepad, a couple of books, a coupld of ornaments (for my imaginary tree), a stuffed Theodore (GO CHIPMUNKS!), and a really pretty silver and turquoise necklace. :) I also got a mug and some hot chocolate mix from Daddy. Andrea sent me on a scavenge hunt - I got 4 little diet Coke cans, a gift card for The Body Shop and a gift card for Barnes and Noble (which is already waiting in my ebooks account on their website).
Today is hanging out, going to get grape juice with Daddy, and maybe going to a movie. We shall see.
It is very quiet here. Not used to quiet!
But it's good to be here for a few days.
